Biography:
Dr. Helena Zhang is an IBM Quantum software developer working on software for running quantum experiments that’s feature-rich, customizable, and easy to use. She has a B.S. in Physics from Caltech and a PhD in Physics from MIT, in the ion trap quantum computing group of Professor Isaac Chuang.
Abstract:
A fully engineered and scalable quantum system is far more than the physical qubits themselves. As quantum hardware scales up to the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) regime where it can solve many interesting problems, it is more important than ever for classical software in the rest of the quantum stack to scale accordingly. In this talk, I will give an overview of the state-of-art software for quantum systems, the unique challenges and requirements for software due to the nature of quantum data, and how open source and cloud ecosystems enable new modes of research and development especially relevant to working remotely.
